This is the version hanging in the Museum of fine arts in Brussels, Belgium but other versions exist (Claus made copies of his own work on commission). Claus was born in Sint-Eloois-Vijve a little village in West Flanders situated near the river Lys (Leie). His love for the river is obvious from this painting of cows crossing it on a hot summer day.
