Dose of Art #102: Claude Monet – Woman with a Parasol / Madame Monet and Her Son (1875)

What better way to start the week after this cold and snowy weekend than with this sunny painting by Monet?
Monet made this portrait truly impressionistic by using the same techniques he used for the landscape on his subjects. Contrary to conventional portraits the features if his wife and son are delineated.
The setting isn’t conventional either; instead of using a static pose it is almost as if Monet called his wife and captured the moment she turned her head to look at him.
