Dose of Art #116: Giorgione – Adoration of the Shepherds (c. 1505-1510)

The birth of Jesus and the events that surrounded it is probably one of the most painted subjects in history (next to his crucifixion). I like this early painting by Giorgione because of its simplicity and use of color. It also has some lovely details; the little angel in the treetops on the upper left, the angel heads appearing on the rock, the poor shepherds with their torn clothes and of course little Jesus lying on the ground. A truly peaceful scene.
