Dose of Art #133: Camille Pissarro – A View of L’Hermitage, near Pontoise (1874)

Pissarro lived in Pontoise between 1866 and 1883. During this period he painted a number of paintings of the village and surrounding land. This makes giving titles to them quite hard as they all show more or less the same. Google ‘hermitage Pontoise Pissarro’ and you find a number of different paintings of him.
He said himself

“Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing. ”

and that is perhaps one of the best descriptions of Impressionism.
