What a difference with yesterdays portrait. Throughout his life, Rembrandt made numerous self-portraits. He had just turned 50 when he painted this one, and there’s no self-flattery in it. We see his wrinkles, round face, and greying hair. He looks straight at us, and for some reason, his gaze seems to capture our attention.
