Daily Dose of Art #23: Sandro Botticelli – Venus and Mars (c. 1485)

Botticelli is famous for his painting the Birth of Venus. This painting was probably made as a commemorate to a wedding. While it is full of (sexual) symbolism the interpretations vary; did they just make love, after which Mars fell asleep? Or did he fall asleep before the act, as the not so happy looking Venus, and the satyr trying to wake him with a horn seem to indicate?
