El Greco’s (born in Crete as Doménikos Theotokópoulos) view on Toledo is strange. The colour and style of painting make it look more modern than it is (compare it to Van Gogh’s Starry Night). And the view is more vision than realistic; the city is stuck between the green fields and the dark and threatening thunderstorm. Take some time to appreciate it (or be mindful, in modern lingo).
