Imagine yourself standing before yesterday’s beautiful but grey painting. While the closed panels are slowly opened a colourful and fantastic unfolds. On the left panel, we now see a peaceful garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. The large mid-section shows the Garden of Earthly Delights and the right panel Last Judgment. Words can’t describe all the fantastic details that are shown. Even in our age of visual abundance, it is a breathtaking sight. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, it must have seemed truly wonderous. In the coming days, we will take a closer look at some of the lovely details.
